Happy New Year! Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Stern Brunch Daddy Digest.* I have an extremely exciting announcement to start off this year with—I wrote (and am now revising) a pirate romance for the second Bonkers Romance Kickstarter Project. The novella is wild, sexy, and as close to fanfiction as I will probably ever write.
If you’ve followed me on other social media, you’ve probably gotten the inkling that I’ve taken great joy in becoming a Formula 1 fangirl over the past couple of years. If you had told me four years ago that I would be properly obsessed with twenty millionaires driving in spicy circles, I would not believe you. But here we are.
Some readers have asked if I ever plan to write a Formula 1 romance. The answer is no. I’m trying to keep Formula 1 as something that’s entirely joy and leisure for me. However, I am very inspired by some of the drivers—specifically, Sir Lewis Hamilton. His thirst traps alone are enough to launch a thousand stories. He’s not only the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time, he is truly gifted in the area of making folks choke on their coffee as soon as they log into Instagram.
Anyhow, when I learned what the theme of this years’ Bonkers Kickstarter was, I immediately thought of Sir Lewis as a pirate. (The verse he sang on Christina Aguilera’s song “Pipe” as XNDA might have something to do with me associating him with oceans.) And also, just look at the man! I don’t know Sir Lewis personally (though I would be happy to change that, and I think we would be friends), so it’s not really about him. It’s heavily inspired by his aesthetic and racing style.
The story is an alternate version of the Golden Age of Piracy that I added magic to and freed myself up to be totally anachronistic. It’s about how love is both a distraction and somehting that makes us stronger. I think it’s really fun.
Anyhow, sign up for updates on the Kickstarter.
I’ll be back in coming weeks, revealing the cover of my next full-length novel Unrealistic Expectations (available for pre-order now!), re-launching the second trilogy in my One Night in South Beach series, and other fun shit. Stay tuned.
