Publishing never gets less wild and wierd.
In January of 2024, I decided that I was going to write something just for me, something intended to bring me pure joy. I’d had the idea to write an MMF romance set in the world of Formula 1 for a while. But I didn’t necessarily want to turn my newish passion for the sport into work. I’d already done that with romance novels in general. I also didn’t want to write in first person POV, which is the new industry standard—especially for indie romance. And I didn’t think a traditional publisher would want to touch anything as high heat as I wanted to write.
And then I read Lucky by Jackie Collins. It was sexy, flashy, juicy, and it had multiple storylines that all wove together in a bananas climax (a lot of them, actually)! I felt like it was a perfect fit for the glamorous world of Formula 1. I wanted to write something that felt like strapping into a Formula 1 car and not being able to get out until the race was over.
So, I wrote it.
I loved it. Several of my author friends loved it. My agents LOVED it.
And then publishers did not love it. A lot of them “already had an F1 book.” One editor asked me to turn it into three books. And I didn’t want to do that, because that’s not the book I wrote. Even though I had my doubts and thought I should maybe change the book and make it more mainstream. Maybe I should re-write all three stories and unlace the conflicts, so I could re-write it in first person so it would perform well in indie.
But I didn’t do that. I hope you give the book a try, and I hope you love it. And, if you don’t love it, I hope you share it with people who might love it. (As a friend told me, “You haven’t made it until you have haters on TikTok.”)
You can get the eBook and audio on Amazon. (And if you don’t want to make the commitment to something brand new, you can borrow the eBook on Kindle Unlimited.)
If you prefer a paperback, or don’t shop Amazon, then the paperback is available everywhere you buy books! (A few of my favorite book shops are linked below.)
If you are in the Twin Cities, and you don’t have plans tonight,
and I are going to be at Tropes & Trifles in Minneapolis tonight talking all things FASTER. (I will also be asking her to preview THE PRINCESS AND THE P.I.)And, if you are on the West Coast and don’t have Halloween Weekend plans, I can’t recommend a trip to Steamy Lit Con enough. It’s my very favorite book conference, and this is the last time it will be in California. Miraculously, they still have tickets!!!!
Thanks to everyone who has already read and shared FASTER. Outisde of making the exact thing you want to make, nothing is more satisfying for an artist than having their work connect with people. xo, Andie
Happy sexy racer day!
Happy Book Release!
